Why do we do what we do?

One fine day a gentleman during his evening walk, saw a boy near a river shore sitting idle. He approached the boy and asked, Hey young boy! Why are you sitting here? The boy replied, nothing Sir, I am just relaxing, I love sitting here.

My dear young boy, people of your age should not waste time like this, why don’t you go to school and study something. Boy replied that’s good, what will happen after that?

My dear young boy, if you get good marks you will get admission in a very good college. Boy replied that’s good, what will happen after that?

My dear young boy, if you graduate from college with flying colours you will get a very good job. Boy replied that’s good, what will happen after that?

My dear young boy if you get a good job, you will have lot of money, can get married, will have children, and can enjoy all good things in life. Boy replied, that’s good, what will happen after that?

My dear young boy, after some time, you will be retired, your kids will be settled, and you can do some social service for the community. Boy replied, that’s good, what will happen after that?

My dear young boy, after that you don’t have to do anything, you can just sit back and relax.

Sir, that’s what I am doing now, sitting and relaxing. Why on earth I have to go through all this trouble to sit and relax.

Have you ever wondered why we are doing what we are doing? If you ponder on this question you will ultimately come to an answer that we are doing most things in life to be happy or to make other’s happy. We want more money, better health, fulfilling career, good relationships etc. to be happy. We are happy when we do things which are aligned with our life’s purpose. When we do what we love, and when we make meaningful contributions to people around us, that’s when we feel really happy and fulfilled.

We are all born with a life purpose that we’re meant to pursue. Identifying and living up to this purpose is perhaps the most important action you can take to be successful and fulfilled. In order to be happy, content, and experience inner peace, it’s important to discover your life’s purpose. When you think, talk, and act in alignment with your purpose, the people, resources, and opportunities you need will naturally gravitate toward you.

There are two days in one’s life which are very important, the day you are born and the day you realize WHY?
